Moussa warns of serious situation in Arab region

Originally published

The Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa has warned of a very dangerous situation in the Arab region in view of the existence of a state, recognized by Arab countries on the basis of reciprocal and balanced peace, which receives the support of a major power and has started to defy the international community.

Moussa made the statement as he addressed the first forum of Arab trade unions and professional associations which opened at the Arab League premises on Thursday to show solidarity with the Arab struggle in Palestine.

This state, Moussa said in reference to Israel, no longer recognizes the powers of the UN Security Council, and is now the one that calls the shots in the Middle East, and even dictates the policies of a major power.

Moussa spoke of Israel as a country placing itself above the law, and yet is allowed to get off scot-free.

With the situation being what it is, Moussa feared that the Palestinian question would not be resolved in the immediate future.

The Arab League chief also warned of schemes to "rearrange" the region, under which Arab peoples would live without being masters of their own destiny.

Israel wants the Palestinians and the rest of Arabs to reach a settlement premised on the Israelis' concept of peace, Moussa said, adding that Tel Aviv needed someone to sign the document that would give Israel all it wanted.

"Therefore, they (Israel) want to oust Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat," Moussa said.
