Morocco's King Mohammed VI, who is on a visit to the USA, received on Tuesday at his residence in New York former US president William Jefferson Clinton.

The meeting covered international issues, the situation in the middle east and ongoing efforts to find a political way out to the present crisis.

The sovereign extended to the former US chief executive an invitation to visit Morocco.

Following the visit, Clinton hailed the pioneer role played by the Moroccan king in favor of peace in the middle east. He told reporters he held a "very useful" meeting with the king and expressed him gratitude for sustained efforts for peace in the middle east and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Al Quds (Jerusalem) as capital of two countries (Palestine and Israel).

Clinton applauded reforms in Morocco leading to the emergence of a plural society, democratic institutions and non-governmental organizations. This is very impressive, he stressed.
