Jordan cancels hosting of the non-aligned summit
Jordan has canceled plans to host the non- aligned summit which is due to be held on July 13th and this is due to reasons apparently linked to conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Jordanian official sources said that the cabinet decided in a session held on Wednesday evening "to apologize" for not convening the summit of the non-aligned states organization in Amman. The sources did not explain the reasons behind the apology.
The Jordanian dailies quoted Jordanian official sources as saying that Jordan gave up hosting this summit due to the fact that the Jordanian diplomacy is concentrating its efforts in the current phase on the critical conditions in the Palestinian territories which has not been improved yet.
However, well- informed sources attributed this Jordanian decision to "the deterioration of conditions in the region," because of the Israeli invasions.
Meantime, the Jordanian King stressed the importance of the role played by the UN and its responsibility to ending the current crisis in the region. This was expressed during the meeting held on Thursday in Amman between the Jordanian King Abdullah II and the UN coordinator to the ME Terry Rod Larsen.
