The 'Nativity' church, 1600 year old
Certain historians consider that the siege of al- Mahd ( the nativity ) church which continued for the two running weeks, by the Israeli forces has resulted in breaking the confidence that rebuilding it might take decades of time, due to feelings of feud that it would create between Christians and Muslims and Jews.
Feud used to be reflected even on this Church throughout 1600 years of its age. The church of Nativity was dedicated in 339 A.D. and its main parts were destroyed in 529. However, it was rebuilt by the Roman Emperor Justinian who rebuilt it in a new form of the designs of the 6th century which continued until the present times.
According to ancient stories, the Persian alienated themselves from a destruction campaign of demolishing Christian workshop sites they had led after they see the figures on the wall paintings of the church, carrying the gifts to the Christ wearing the Persian costumes. The church, moreover survived other destruction campaigns throughout history.
