Russia considers Arafat as sole legitimate representative of palestinian people

Russia considers Palestinian president, Yasser Arafat, as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, said in Rabat Wednesday Russian foreign minister, Igor Ivanov. He said Arafat is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and that his participation in the quest of a fair and lasting peace in the middle east is decisive.

Ivanov, who was speaking at a joint press conference with Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation Mohamed Benaissa, warned that Israeli attempts to destroy the Palestinian authority will only further complicate the situation, recalling that his country is endeavoring, together with the USA and the European Union, for an immediate implementation of the UN security council resolution 1402.
