King Mohammed holds intensive contacts with Arab leaders over situation in palestinian territories
Following the serious developments in the Palestinian territories, king Mohammed VI, chairman of Al-Quds committee, has been intensifying contacts with Arab leaders in Beirut and international moves.
As soon as he heard the news of the Israeli soldiers invasion of the general headquarters of Palestinian president, Yasser Arafat, in Ramallah, King Mohammed VI held phone talks with the Palestinian President to renew Morocco's full backing and solidarity with the Palestinian people and leadership against the new Israeli escalation waged by the occupation forces in blatant defiance to Arab and international will to establish peace.
King Mohammed VI also reaffirmed to President Arafat his determination to carry on efforts, in his capacity as chairman of Al-Quds Committee, with a view to mobilizing international, Islamic and Arab backing for the triumph of the legitimate struggle of the brotherly Palestinian people to liberate their land and establish an independent state with Al-Quds Asharif as capital.
The king also held phone talks with King Abdallah II Ibn Al-Hussein of Jordan over the dangerous and serious Israeli military escalation in the Palestinian territories.
On Saturday, the sovereign held a meeting in Beirut with Lebanese president, Emile Lahoud, acting chairman of the Arab summit. The meeting is part of inter-Arab contacts following the serious events happening in the Palestinian territories and the king's contacts with Arab leaders.
The sovereign also met this Saturday Lebanese premier, Rafiq Hariri, who hailed the efficient contribution brought by the Moroccan king to the success of the Arab summit of Beirut (March 27-28), said his talks with the king surveyed developments of the situation in Palestinian territories and Arab and international moves needed to end the Israeli aggression.
Another meeting is also scheduled with Saudi crown prince, Abdallah bin Abdulaziz, author of the peace initiative adopted by the Arab summit which proposes normal relations with Israel in exchange for Israeli withdrawal from all lands occupied since 1967.
In addition to these contacts, the sovereign sent on Friday messages to the presidents of the USA, France, Russia, China and to the prime minister of Britain, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, urging for action to end the Israeli military operations.
