Call for creation of a lobby for women's massive participation in elections
An Africa-Asia parliamentary forum on human security and gender issues called for the creation of a lobby for women's massive presence on electoral rolls.
Female MPs from 28 African and Asian nations passed a package of recommendations pertaining mainly to parliaments' role in promoting the situation of women.
One of their recommendations called for gender equality and for a larger representation of women in elected bodies and in decision-making.
They equally stressed the need to take into account women's condition in all anti-poverty strategies, women being vulnerable to such social problems.
The United-Nations-sponsored forum was held on the morrow of the 107th session of the International Parliamentary Union, held March 17-22 in Marrakesh.
