Originally published

Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi conferred here Wednesday with visiting secretary of state for foreign trade, Francois Huwart, who started Tuesday a two-day work visit to Morocco.

Youssoufi called France to enhance its backing to Moroccan small and medium sized enterprises and to the sector of handicraft and said Morocco upholds the project to set up a Euro-Mediterranean bank, as it will be a tool for economic development in the Mediterranean region.

Talks also covered globalisation issues and the need to fairly share wealth and to promote north-south dialogue.

The two sides deplored the escalation of violence in the occupied Arab territories and the tragic evolution of events in the region and said the Palestinian issue hampers the Euro-Mediterranean process.

Huwart is visit Morocco on the eve of a meeting of the external trade ministers of the Mediterranean basin countries, due March 18-22 in Toledo (Spain, and of the United Nations Conference of Monterrey (Mexico) on development financing (March 18-22).
