Moroccan-US talks on Morocco's territorial integrity
The issue of Morocco's territorial integrity following the release of the latest report of the UN Secretary General on the Sahara was at the focus of talks held in Rabat Wednesday between chairman of the committee of foreign affairs and national defense at the House of Representatives, Bouazaa Lamrahi, and US ambassador to Morocco, Margaret Tutwiller.
Moroccan TV channel TVM, which reported the news, said the meeting was part of the consolidation of relations between Morocco and the United States and the activation of Moroccan parliamentary diplomacy.
In the report he presented last February 19 to the Security council, the UN Secretary General proposed four options to settle the Sahara issues, namely the implementation of the UN settlement plan (worked out in the early nineties), the revision of the framework agreement (brokered by his personal envoy, James baker) the partitioning of the territory, or the end of the mission of the the UN mission for the holding of a referendum in the Sahara.
Morocco, with all its components (government, political parties, civil society activists, Sahara natives.) has flatly rejected the partition proposal.
Lamrahi and Tutwiller equally discussed ways of promoting Moroccan economy and attracting investments to Morocco, mainly US investments.
