Moroccan association calls Amnesty International to intervene for liberation of 738 Moroccan civilians
Moroccan association "Moroccan Sahara" called London-based Amnesty International to intervene for the liberation of 738 Moroccan civilians held in the Tindouf camps (southwestern Algeria).
The request was made by a delegation from the association in a meeting on Thursday with the international human rights advocacy ngo.
The association chairman told AI officials an international commission was set up to investigate into the fate of the prisoners of war held in the Polisario separatists' Lahmada camps and recalled how 150,000 parcels sent by families to their imprisoned relatives never reached their addressees, in total violation of international conventions and the most basic rights of prisoners.
The families continue to ship their parcels to the delegation of the international Red Cross in Tunis, but these parcels are never delivered since the Red Cross is only allowed to visit prisoners twice a year.
The association also announced plans to hold this March 11-15 various awareness-raising campaigns in Sweden, on the plight of Moroccan civil prisoners and another 1,362 prisoners of war, some of them are imprisoned for over 20 years.
