Originally published

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, who is currently on a visit to the US, has underlined the importance of developing the US situation towards the Middle East to serve peace, security and stability in the region.

The statements during a meeting Moussa held with Secretary of State Colin Powell in New York on the fringe of the World Economic Forum meetings, which were held in New York this year instead of its usual avenue, the alpine resort of Davos, Switzerland.

During the meeting, Moussa stressed the necessity that Washington should move towards implementing what President Bush had mentioned in an earlier speech on establishing a Palestinian State, and ending the Israeli occupation.

On his part, Powell said the US remains committed to what Bush said on the creation of a Palestinian State, adding that the US had not given up hopes in reviving the peace process.

The two officials also discussed the Iragi file.
