African countries to present concerns at summit
Next month's African-French Summit will give African nations an opportunity to discuss their concerns with France, which is keen to address these issues, an Egyptian diplomat said yesterday.
Egyptian Ambassador to France Aly Maher said the February 8 summit would tackle the New African Initiative for Development, which was ratified during a summit in Lusaka last year.
African countries including Egypt have called for G-8 countries to support the initiative, which would help Africa achieve economic and political growth.
France's call for the new summit reflects its interest in the African continent, Maher said, adding that France played an active role in putting the initiative at the top of the upcoming G-8 summit in Canada.
