Morocco defeats Gambia in Trial Match

Originally published

Morocco on Wednesday defeated Gambia in a trial match played in the Gambian capital city of Banjul.

The Atlas Lions sealed the match in the first half, as strikers Adil Ramzi of Dutch PSV Eindhoven and Camacho of Tunisian Club Africain scored the two victorious goals in the 15th and 28th minutes respectively.

The victory is a strong leverage for the Moroccans on the eve of their participation in the African nations' cup CAN-2002, scheduled to be held in Mali January 19 through February 10.

In Mali, Morocco will have to measure with Ghana (Four-time winners of the CAN), South Africa (World Cup qualifiers) and outsiders Burkina Faso.

The trial against Gambia crowns a series of warming up games Morocco played against Zambia (1-0), Mali (1-1) and Guinea (2-1).

The North Africans will play their first CAN-2002 match on Monday against Ghana, before meeting Burkina Faso on January 26 and South Africa on January 30.
