Mubarak, Al Baz, US Jewish organizations discuss peace between Palestinians, Israelis
Egyptian Presidential Political Advisor Osama Al-Baz met Wednesday with a U.S. Jewish organizations delegation under Marvin Kinder, Head of the Executive Committee of the Israeli Political Forum.
Steven Cohen, spokesman for the delegation, said the delegation's talks with President Hosni Mubarak and Baz took up the current situation in the region, issues of joint cooperation like combatting terrorism and reviving the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis and improving relations between Jewish Americans and Egypt.
Cohen described the situation between the Palestinians and Israelis as serious and must find a way back to negotiations and peace. The Jewish delegation comprises nine members representing Jewish-American organizations that work on promoting an American role in the Middle East peace process.
Al Baz said President Mubarak briefed the U.S. Jewish delegation in a meeting Wednesday on Egypt's view as regards the serious developments in the region, possible repercussions over the peace process and coexistence between the Arabs and Israel.
Meantime, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held a meeting on Wednesday with a delegation representing American Jewish organizations.
The nine-member delegation is led by the executive chairman of the Israeli Political forum. Steven Cohen, Spokesman for the delegation, underlined the importance of enhancing American-Egyptian dialogue.
He described as "positive" the delegates' talks with Mubarak, especially regarding peace, fighting terrorism and bilateral relations.
He added that Mubarak underlined the importance of continuing the Palestinian-Israeli contacts and changing the political atmosphere to end violence.
Cohen said the delegations talks with the parties concerned in the region aim at giving a new impetus to peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
