Syria and the Beirut summit
The Jordanian weekly al-Hilal ( the Crescent) said in its recent issue published on Wednesday in Amman that Damascus refused to postpone the forthcoming Arab summit in Beirut or to transfer it to another Arab capital.
In a report from Damascus, the weekly said that Damascus and Beirut have intensified their inter- Arab contacts for good preparations in order to provide this summit a success and that despite the inter- Lebanese political differences on the timing of this summit, however, Damascus has settled its position towards the time and venue of convening this summit and this was in a message to the Arab and Lebanese sides which seek to transfer the place of the summit according to the Libyan desire which called for transferring the summit to Cairo.
Al-Hilal quoted Syrian sources and references that President Bashar al-Assad will attend this summit, noting that convening this summit in Beirut will be an opportunity to conclude serious decisions.
