The Ministry of Culture and the Governorate of Matrouh agreed to set up a museum for ancient antiquities at km 98 of Alexandria highway, Marina, North Coast.

The prospective museum, that will be constructed at the most modern style, will comprise all the rare monuments unearthed in the local surroundings. Besides, it will exhibit materialized models of the ancient markets that were existing at old times.

Models of tombs, streets, shops, are to be displayed over a huge screen that will show the importance of the exhibited items over the historical ages.

The museum, costing LE 2 million, will be built over 1800 square meters. It was designed to take place at the tourist attracting area of Marina. Next June is the date set to get the museum building completely finished.

That specific area had once been one of the most significant city-ports on the north western coast especially in the Greek and Roman ages. Many of the ruins still stand as rare housing villas, in addition to the tombs, pavements and selling stores that had been constructed with marble or tile.
