Libya to sign the agreement on banning chemical weapons production
According to news reports in Washington, diplomats mediate between the West and Libya said that the Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi showed his readiness to sign " the chemical weapons production banning agreement."
This decision by President al-Qaddafi came following special consultation he held with those diplomats and world prominent figures including former South Africa President Nelson Mandella who visited Libya in October this year and the Saudi ambassador in Washington prince Bander Bin Sultan who visited Libya this month.
Signing this agreement means opening the Libyan chemical facilities before UN inspectors.
The Brazilian diplomat in charge of implementing the chemical weapons banning agreement Jose Bustani said he had informed about the Libyan commitment to signing the agreement within the coming weeks. Bustani added " I can assure that this matter is settled by al-Qaddafi and so as it is just a matter of time. " He indicated that this gesture by Libya is very important because Libya's consent will have its impact on all countries of the Middle East.
