Economic Ministerial Group discusses with IMF plan to face up September 11 adverse impacts
The economic Ministerial group met yesterday under Prime Minister Atef Ebeid for talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Advisor Stanley Fischer and representative of the Arab group Abdul Shakour Shaalan currently visiting Egypt.
Official sources said the meeting dealt with the government's plan to face up the adverse impact of the September 11 terrorist attacks on Washington and New York on the Egyptian economy.
The sources added that the IMF pledged to offer financial assistance to Egypt within the coming three months in appreciation for its key role in the Middle East.
Al-Akhbar newspaper learned that Fischer asserted the world's current economic recession cropped up following the September 11 events will go on for six months but it is a temporary one.
He promised that the IMF will help some Arab states to overcome the new crisis.
