Islamic foreign ministers hold Israel responsible for worsening of situation in middle east

Originally published

Foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference, who hold on Monday an extraordinary session in Doha, said Israel is entirely responsible for the worsening of the situation in the Middle East, due to the continuation of its occupation and aggressions against the Palestinian people.

The Islamic foreign ministers described in a statement the aggressions as a blatant violation of human rights, international law and international charters and conventions, mainly the 4th Geneva convention.

They condemned the Israeli shelling of cities, villages, camps and offices of the Palestinian authority and warned of potential dangers if such actions targeting the unity of the Palestinian people, its national institutions and legitimate leadership continue.

After they expressed political, material and moral support to the Palestinian people in their struggle and resistance against Israeli occupation and heroic uprising for their independence, trey said the Israeli policy seeks to destabilize the whole region.

The Qatar session also set up a ministerial panel to urge the United States and the European Union to press Israel to end its attacks on the Palestinians and revive Middle East peacemaking. Foreign ministers from the 57-nation OIC pledged support for the Palestinian Authority, which is under nearly two weeks of fierce Israeli attacks.

"The OIC calls on the international community...especially the United States, Russia and the EU to immediately intervene to stop the Israeli aggression," the ministers said in a statement. They also renewed a call for international protection for the Palestinians and demanded an "immediate halt to Israeli aggression and plots to undermine the Palestinian Authority by targeting its symbols, and consider these actions as terrorism."

The statement said the panel will contact the United States, other members of the U.N. Security Council and the EU and tell them Israeli actions threatened to "destabilize the Middle East as a whole."
