USA should adopt practical methods to prevent Israeli aggression

Originally published

Arab Affairs Committee at the People's Assembly termed the remarks of US Secretary of State Colin Powell on the Middle East as positive, but expressed reservations on some points.

In its meeting under Ahmed Abu Zeid, the committee pointed out that one of the negative aspects was that the remarks focused on the Palestinian issue only, without dealing with the comprehensive solution to the Middle East conflict.

Abu Zeid said that the remarks did not define the Palestinian state and its capital, nor the extent of its sovereignty and independence. They didn't also talk about the refugees problem, and how to solve it.

He pointed that Powell has completely blamed the Palestinians for hindering the realization of peace, bluntly accusing them of violence and terrorism.

The committee stressed the necessity that the USA would put a timetable for the peace process based on the establishment of two states, Palestinian and Israeli.

The USA should adopt a practical method to prevent Israeli aggressions on the Palestinian people, and to stop the policy of assassination.
