Sudan lifts censorship from most of its papers
Press-men on Thursday announced lifting censorship from most of the 16 Sudanese dailies as well as abrogating publications restrictions for the first time since two years.
The Sudanese daily al-Anbaa reported that presidential directives issued stating to censorship on the papers with the exception of four. Journalists said that restrictions were abrogated as from Thursday, adding that it is premature to say whether this measure is a signal to offer vaster press and political freedoms in Sudan, called upon by human rights partisans.
However, the four Sudanese papers which are still inspected and controlled are the Islamic daily " Alwan" ( colors), the independent daily al-Watan " ( the homeland ), the Leftist " al-Rai al-Akhar" ( the other's view) and the English language daily " Khartoum Monitor."
