Egypt underlines need to back UN role in humanitarian aid
Egypt has underlined the need to boost UN role in the field of offering humanitarian aid.
An address at the UN General Assembly while discussing humanitarian aid, Egypt's Permanent delegate to the international organization ambassador Ahmed Abul Gheit said that 90 per cent of the victims of natural disasters are from developing countries.
He added that though number of wars has gone down, yet armed conflicts are rising and number of their victims is on the rise as well.
Abul Gheit said that Egypt strongly condemns all violations to which civilians are exposed during the war and urges international community to interfere to face up humanitarian emergences.
"Israeli siege caused a tragedy for the unarmed Palestinians undermined the Palestinian Authority and precluded the arrival of humanitarian aid to needy Palestinians," he said.
Egypt thus urges the international conscience to intervene to salvage the Palestinian economy and institutions, he added.
