Mubarak discusses with Solana Middle East scene

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Wednesday receives Europe Union (EU) Foreign Policy and Security Commissioner Javier Solana, who is expected in Cairo Tuesday on a two-day visit, during which he will be accompanied by EU Middle East peace envoy Migael Moratinos. The Information Counsellor of the EU Office in Cairo said that Solana's visit falls within the context of a tour in the region that will take him to Israel, the Palestinian areas, Egypt and Jordan.

'The Mubarak-Solana talks will focus on the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and the peace process impasse,' he said.

'The senior European official will also meet with Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher,' he added.
