In statements he made before meeting with the Italian foreign minister Renato Rogero, the secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa called on Italy to play a role in giving a push forward to the diplomatic and political move towards the establishment of an independent palestinian state, noting that the Italian diplomacy has realized the nature of the current problem in the Middle East and its negative implications.

Moussa said that his talks with the Italian foreign minister will deal in addition to the situation in the Middle East the situation in the Mediterranean Sea, the Barcelona process and the coming ministerial meeting in Brussels by the beginning of November as well as the current international conditions.

Moussa, on the other hand, said he on Thursday received a report from the Palestinian Authority and a telephone call from the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat about the Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people and the incursion of the Israeli forces into the city of Ramullah.

Moussa stressed the need of Israel's halting of its aggressive practices against the Palestinians and the need to abide by the will of the international community and UN resolutions. Moussa, on the other hand, warned against the consequences of the Israeli escalation on the region.
