Egyptian oases on world monuments map

Originally published

Are the Egyptian oases going to be included in the map of world monuments? This is the question that has been strongly raised after a recent visit of a high-level UNESCO delegate to the New Valley museum.

In fact, the oases area, al-Dakhla, al-Kharga and al-Farafra, is the land of civilizations on which spread monuments of all ages; Pharaonic, Roman, Coptic and Islamic. This area contains 1000 excavation sites.

The New Valley museum consists of three floors surrounded by a garden. The first floor contains a main lobby comprising a number of colored gesso masks and coffins dating back to the Roman age. This is in addition to traditional and winged Sphinx statues and a stone statue of God Horus.

The other two floors contain knives, clay jars, writing tools and toys, jewelry, coffin pieces, wood statues and icons. Coptic and Islamic monuments include icons, wood works, lanterns and Koran verses. This is besides a large library.
