OIC Parliaments Union denounces Berlusconi's anti-Islam statements

Originally published

The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Parliaments Union member states expressed deep resentment at Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's statements against the Arab and Islamic civilization.

OIC lawmakers deemed Berlusconi's statements as an act of aggression unbecoming of a civilized country that was once a neighbour to and interacted with the Islamic civilization.

In a statement issued Friday, the OIC Parliamentary Conference warned that such statements might be part of a campaign against the Islamic civilization.

The conference urged Berlusconi to rise to the level of relations between Arabs and Muslims on the one hand and Italy on the other.

It praised, however, statements by European officials denouncing Berlusconi's anti-Islam remarks and distancing themselves from them.
