Mubarak will never accept 'Crusade' term

Originally published

European Union (EU) Commissioner for Security and Foreign Policy Javier Solana said President Hosni Mubarak will never accept the use of the term "Crusade" when " we talk about combatting terrorism."

Addressing a conference involving heads of the European Parliamentary committees, Solana urged a wise choice of the words and avoiding being lured by the public opinion's trends.

He highlighted the visit by U.S. President George W. Bush to an Islamic center in Washington to emphasize that Islam has nothing to do with the war.

"The role of the leaders is to lead the people, not to be led by the public sentiments demanding revenge. Some Arab countries have been suffering for many years from terrorist operations as well," he recalled.
