Sudan: the ruling party is not for reconciling al-Turabi

Originally published

The secretary general of the ruling " national congress party" Ibrahim Ahmad Omar said on Tuesday that his party does not try to restore its relations with the opposition People's National Congress party, led by Sheikh Hassan al-Turabi.

Omar denied what was published by the mass media about a memorandum submitted by 185 Islamic figures from the ruling party calling for ending the difference with the " people's congress party." Omar explained that there is no connection between the meeting which was held recently with two of the leaders of the people's national congress party and what was stated about the memorandum of reconciliation, adding that his party " rejects violence and also welcomes every one that rejects that." Omar underestimated fears indicating the intention of al-Bashir to alienate the Islamists from the rule and to form a military government.

In this respect, Omar stressed that " President al-Bashir does not intend to form a military government nor to alienate certain groups from the government."
