Egypt to nominate Ghali for Francophone Secretary General post
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher asserted that Egypt, for the second time, will nominate Butros Ghali for the Francophone Secretary-General post.
In statements to MENA late Friday, Maher said that Egypt had informed Francophone member states of this nomination and everything is just fine as regards the re-election of Ghali.
On Wednesday, Maher had met with Congolese Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Rodolphe Adada.
The nomination of a Secretary-General for the Francophone Organization came high on the agenda of talks.
Maher, on his part, said Egypt for the second time has nominated Boutros Ghali for the post.
We agreed that the result of the Francophone Organization elections should not have any negative impact on the Egyptian-Congolese relations, Maher said.
Maher also had talks on this issue with African leaders. As a result, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoir and Togo voiced support to the nomination of Ghali.
Interviewed by a French magazine earlier this month, Ghali said President Jacques Chirac strongly supports his nomination for the post.
