On Syrian- Iraqi relations

Originally published

The Jordanian weekly al-Sabeel talked in its recent issue released on Tuesday about the Syrian- Iraqi closeness, noting that the visit of the Syrian prime minister to Baghdad constituted an accelerated progress in the relation between the two countries following a boycott of relations between the two countries lasted for several years.

In an analysis, the paper added that opening borders, canceling entry visas, expanding several major trade protocols between the two countries, and the Syrian authorities abrogation of all restrictions used to be imposed on the travel of the Syrians and erasing the phrase " except Iraq" from the passports of the Syrians, as well as re-opening the Iraqi oil pipelines, all reveal the good and clear intention to bridge the rift between the two countries.

The weekly added that this closeness comes at a time when the US and the Western countries clearly align to Israel and its oppressive policy after the eruption of the Palestinian Intifada, besides the increased military co-operation between Turkey and Israel which was recently crowned by Sharon's visit to Ankara and his signing of several military agreements that will have indirectly threaten Syria, Iraq and Iran..
