UMA shoura council legal affairs committee recommends accords ratification
The legal affairs committee of the Arab Maghreb Union Shoura council has recommended to member countries at the end of its session in Tunis the speeding of accords ratification.
The committee, which met this Aug.22-23, said only six agreements were ratified by UMA member countries out of a total of 37 and recommended therefore to ease ratification procedures. The meeting also called for creating a ministerial commission for legal and judiciary affairs, extending the prerogatives of the consultative council and of the foreign affairs council.
The meeting urged for enforcing recommendations of the Shoura council's meeting in 1992 in Libya to guarantee free movement of people and to establish a single identity card for UMA citizens. The recommendations will be submitted to the
Maghreban shoura council (legislative body of the Arab Maghreb Union) slated for next September 5-6 in Rabat.
The Maghreban shoura council is made of five committee, political affairs, economic affairs, financial affairs, planning and food security, human resources and infrastructures.
Three other committees of the Shoura council were convened recently, the political affairs committee, which met this week in Rabat, the basic infrastructure committee, which met on Monday in Tripoli, and the human resources committee which met last week in Algiers.
