Contacting Israel is not enough; Washington could prevent it from crossing red lines

Originally published

Egyptian Presidential Political Advisor Osama AL Baz will leave Washington Tuesday for Cairo to submit a full dressed report to President Mubarak on the outcome of the mission of the high level Egyptian delegation to Washington.

In statements yesterday, Dr. Baz said the Middle East region will witness more active and effective US role for cooling off the situation and resumption of the peace process.

He said the Egyptian delegation escorting him to Washington informed the US side that non interference by the United States and further deterioration in the situation will pose a threat to security and stability in several, if not all Arab countries which have been dissatisfied with the sustained Israeli attacks against Palestinians.

Baz said since Israel gets the biggest political and military support from the United States, Washington is capable of reining in Israel and preventing it from crossing red lines and informing it that maintaining this policy against Palestinians is unacceptable and this would hurt US and Israeli interests as well.
