ECOSOC adopts draft resolution to assist Palestinian women

Originally published

The United Nations economic and social council (ECOSOC) adopted on Tuesday a draft resolution to assist Palestinian women.

The resolution, which will now go to the general assembly for final adoption, reaffirms that the Israeli occupation remains a major obstacle for Palestinian women with regard to their advancement, self-reliance and integration in the development planning of their society. It urges for intensification of efforts to provide financial and technical assistance to Palestinian women, especially during the transitional period.

Ecosoc voices concern at the deterioration of the situation of Palestinian women in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Al-Quds (Jerusalem). The resolution cites severe consequences of continuous illegal Israeli settlements activities, harsh economic conditions, and other consequences for the Palestinian women and their families, resulting from the frequent closures and isolation of the occupied territory.
