Youssoufi chairs meeting of ministerial commission on women
Morocco's prime minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi chaired on Monday a meeting of the inter-ministerial commission in charge of women promotion.
The meeting examined several draft laws, mainly the creation of a fund to shield children of divorced parents against delinquency in case of non-payment of alimonies. Other drafts are related to the creation of a legal, social and health assistance center for poorest women, the prime minister office said in a statement announcing a convention will be signed with audio-visual media to promote women awareness.
The meeting also looked into the creation, in cooperation with the European Union, of a national documentation, information, research, studies and training center on the situation of women in order to supply scientific data on means to reduce gender disparities.
A draft law on the convention against all forms of discriminations against women was on the agenda. The session examined means to enforce the international convention with reserves on articles that do not match Morocco's moral values and the need to adapt them to the Moroccan constitution.
The inter-ministerial commission comprises the justice minister, the foreign affairs and cooperation minister, the culture and communication minister, the youth and sports minister, and the minister in charge of women condition, family and children protection and the integration of handicapped persons.
