Israel renews rejection of UN observers in Palestinian territories
The Israeli foreign minister on Sunday stressed Israel's rejection to deploy UN observers in the Palestinian territories and called for a greater single US role in any mechanism in order to monitor the cease- fire.
In statements to the Israeli radio on Sunday, Peres added that Israel is interested in the American role and the physical American presence in the field, especially after the position voiced by the G-8 in Genoa on the need of sending UN observers to the occupied Palestinian territories.
Peres indicated that the "Wye Planation" agreement between Israel and the Palestinians which was signed between Israel and the Palestinians signed in 1998 calls that American observers will carry out security measures.
Worthy mentioning that the Israeli defense minister Benjamin Bin Aleazer talked on Friday about an enlarged role played by US observers from the CIA.
