Shura statement denounces Israeli practices

Originally published

The Shura (Consultative) Council expressed deep concern over the Israeli aggressions and excessive use of force against the unarmed Palestinians and the continued policies of settlement building and demolition of Palestinians' houses.

In a statement issued Tuesday by the Arab, Foreign and National Security Affairs Committee, the Council expressed support for President Hosni Mubarak's efforts to contain the situation and keep further escalation at bay via contacts with all parties concerned to realise stability in the region and put the peace process back on track within international legitimacy.

The Israeli practices in the Palestinian lands are clashing with human rights recommended by the world community and international treaties, a matter that would trigger more anger and frustration on the part of the Palestinians.

The Committee appealed to the summit of the industrialized states to be held in Genoa, Italy, on Friday to call on Israel to halt its practices that lead to the deterioration of the status in the Middle East.
