Optimism prevails the Sudanese circles
After the surprise given by the People's Congress party which is led by Hassan al-Turabi to accept the Egyptian- Libyan initiative, atmospheres of optimism are prevailing both the circles of the Sudanese government and the opposition, alike as the Sudanese conflicted sides accepted last week the declaration of principles which is composed of nine items, proposed by mediators in the joint initiative in preparation to start practical steps to negotiate upon and form a provisional government, with main tasks including the convening of a constitutional conference and preparation for the elections.
President al-Bashir and the chairman of the coalition al-Meirghani met for the first time in 20000 in Asmara at the mediation of President Asyas Afourki of Eritrea and this meeting which was described as an " explanatory" achieved a sort of detente. A detente which did not last time because of the reciprocated escalation of the military actions in East Sudan, as the government restored back the Hamishkorib city, following the meeting.
The Sudanese opposition retaliated by a military operation that targeted Kasla city, the biggest city of the Eastern Sudan, close to the borders with Eritrea. These reciprocated military operations created bitter conditions and a crisis of confidence between the government and the opposition, because of which contacts and meetings between the two sides halted.
The peace process in Sudan witnessed a sort of deadlock before the mediators interfered in the joint initiative. The recent moves made in the framework of the joint initiative sponsored by Egypt and Libya have revived the hopes on the possibility that the Sudanese parties concerned will reach a peaceful initiative.
