Sharon invited to visit Italy

The Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon has received an invitation from the Italian government to visit Rome but no date has been so far set for such a visit. An official at the Israeli cabinet presidium said that Sharon received the invitation after his election as a prime minister in February. In May, Italy condemned Israel's use of excessive force against the Palestinians, stressing that Israel is mistaken if it believes it can subjugate the Palestinians.
