The UN and kidnapped Israeli soldiers

Originally published

The UN on Friday decided to hand over Israel and the Lebanese government a video tape filmed on the wake of Hizbullah capturing of three Israeli soldiers. The film was handed over after the faces appearing in the tape were covered for security consideration.

News reports quoted the secretary general of the peace keeping forces Jan Mari Geyahino as saying in a press conference that nothing in that video tape that sheds light on the conditions of kidnapping, nor the status of the Israeli soldiers, but the UN is working under humanitarian conditions towards those people.

He added that the video tape which lasts for 30 minutes and was pictured in South Lebanon shows two military cars left aside with all their equipment, besides attempts made by the UN troopers to withdraw the two cars and that they were intercepted by an armed group, supposed to be from the Hizbullah party. The film also shows small blood drops in the two cars but their sources can not be decided. Also seen were false plates for the UN cars and two uniforms for UN troopers.

He stressed that he personally knew about this video tape on June 6th after one of the UNIFIL ( UN forces working in South Lebanon) soldiers carried it to New York. He deliberately denied suspicions that the UN has hidden this tape, an act which might embarrass the UN. He indicated we did not hide any thing but the disguising operations are necessary to ensure the security of our team.
