International socialist backs UN Security Council's latest resolution on Sahara
The International Socialist association expressed in its statement published at the end of its council meeting total support to the resolution adopted on Friday by the UN Security Council for a political solution to the Sahara issue.
The socialist parties re-produced the same wording of a resolution adopted in November 200 in Maputo (Mozambique) and called on the parties to cooperate fully with the United Nations and the UN secretary general's special envoy.
The International Socialist, which renewed support to the UN initiatives, called parties to start a political dialogue.
The International Socialist, which met under the chairmanship of Portugal's president, Antonio Guterres, brought together several socialist presidents and heads of government, including Palestinian president, Yasser Arafat, Israeli foreign minister, Shimon Peres. It also adopted resolution on peace in the middle east, African conflicts and Algeria.
Morocco was represented by Khalid Alioua, member of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces' political bureau and former minister in the Socialist-led coalition cabinet and Hamid Belcadi, member of the USFP foreign relations commission.
