Higher council for education and culture in the west holds first meeting in Paris

Originally published

The Higher Council for Education and Culture in the West holds its first meeting in Paris next Saturday, at the invitation of the Rabat-based Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), says ISESCO.

The council was established by the Strategy for the Islamic Cultural Action in the West, endorsed by the Islamic Summit Conference at its ninth session held in Doha in November 200.

ISESCO recalls that it had elaborated a strategy for the Islamic Cultural Action in the West in collaboration with Islamic cultural centers and associations in the countries of migration. The Strategy had been examined in several meetings organized by ISESCO in European capitals and was subsequently submitted to ISESCO's seventh General Conference for adoption. It was then put before the Islamic Conference of foreign ministers for endorsement before it went to the ninth Islamic Summit Conference for approval.

Under this plan, the Higher Council for Education and Culture in the West was set up and will hold its first meeting in Paris, in co-ordination with the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe.

The meeting will be attended by heads of Islamic cultural centers and associations in Latin America, Spain, Britain, Croatia, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Russia and the United States of America.

The encounter will discuss educational and cultural projects prepared by ISESCO for Muslim communities and minorities in the West, as well as a program for the coming meetings.
