Syria has yet to legalize forums

In a statement to the Qatari daily al-Watan issued on Tuesday, a well-informed Syrian source denied that the Syrian authorities have had banned a general meeting for the committees and commissions of civil forums.

The source explained that according to the enacted law in Syria, a prior licensing should be obtained for convening such a meeting and that the components of the constitution should be taken into account when practicing any general activity in the Syrian society.

Meantime, the official spokesman for the Jamal al-Attasi forum on democratic dialogue Habib Issa has considered the decision taken to prevent the meeting of forums as not in its due place, hoping that this decision will be tracked back.
