American archbishops for ending the war in Sudan

Originally published

Catholic archbishops in the US have called on the US President George Bush to appoint a special envoy in Sudan so that the US will lead efforts to end the war in Sudan.

News reports quoted Michael Berri, who was talking in the name of the delegation of the national conference of the catholic archbishop who visited Sudan this month as saying that the US government has also to make pressure on oil companies in order to ensure that their investments in Sudan do not contribute to financing the war taking place between the rebellions in South Sudan and the government.

Berri announced these recommendations before the International and strategic studies center in Washington, at a time when the Bush administration reviews its policy towards Sudan.
