Originally published

Thami Khyari has been re-elected national secretary of the Democratic Forces Front (FFD/ participating in the coalition government).

Khyari was maintained in his post by the 277-member national commission, stemming from the party's first congress held in Casablanca over the weekend with the participation of some 2147 FFD militants.

The congress adopted a general declaration defining the party's trend as "a progressist, democratic, leftist political force" and its stand on a set of national and international issues.

The FFD thus voiced backing, when tackling the Sahara issue, to any political solution that does not harm Morocco's national sovereignty over its whole territory and insisted that Morocco's sovereignty cannot be subject to any concession.

The congress renewed Morocco's attachment to the recovery of the Moroccan cities of Sebta and Melillia and neighboring Islands that are still under Spanish dominion and called Spain to start negotiations with Morocco to this effect.

The FFD also renewed unconditional backing to the Palestinian people in their fair struggle to recover their lands and enjoy their right to establish an independent statye with Al-Quds as its capital. The party called all peace-living forces to back the Palestinian people, victim of slaughters perpetrated by the Israelis. It also renewed backing to the Syrian and Lebanese people for the recovery of their occupied territories and called for lifting the embargo decreed on the Iraqi people.
