UN postpones second round of talks with Iraq because of division
Diplomats at the UN announced on Saturday evening that the UN secretary general has decided to postpone a second round of talks held at higher level with Iraq, at least for one month, because of the deep differences inside the UN Security Council.
News reports quoted sources at the UN Security Council as saying that Annan told Baghdad that the expected the meeting to be held in May to discuss pending issues may not be held before June, at least, the date was not fixed for such a meeting.
This issue, was debated during a monthly meeting held between Annan and members of the UN Security Council last week.
Annan said that the UN Security Council has to be united clearly in order to be able to proceed forward in its talks with Iraq.
