The Health ministry in Bahrain has stressed that meat in the markets are free from " foot-and-mouth disease" and from any other diseases.

The Gulf News Agency quoted the chairman of the food monitoring department at the health ministry Abdullah Ahmad as saying that the meat available at the Bahraini markets are completely free from the foot-and-mouth disease and other diseases, adding that all imported meat are subjected to control before and after they are slaughtered and also before they are put for sale in the markets.

Worthy mentioning that Bahrain in the mid of January this year banned the imports of fodder and cow-meat from the countries of the European Union because of the " mad- cow " disease.

The decision of banning the imports covered meat, cow meat, fodder and fresh, frozen, cooled, canned meat and their by- products from the European Union.
