Sudanese police has dispersed a mass
The Sudanese police has dispersed a mass held on the occasion of the " Easter" and arrested 40 persons from the attending masses.
The secretary general of the Sudanese churches council Anoke Tombi Steneth said that the police used stick and tear gas in order to disperse the mass, in which the German Reverend Reinhard Bonke attended. The incident resulted in wounding several people.
The police had interfered to disperse the mass which was attended by thousands of people after the participants refused a decision stated to transfer the place of the mass from the " Green Square" in the downtown of al-Khartoum to a sideline place, closed and of less area. The decision to transfer the place of the mass was taken for security reasons after Islamic groups threatened to attack the mass.
The Sudanese minister of the Interior Abdul Rahman Hussein said that the Sudanese authorities agreed the mass to be held in a close- door place, rather in a public square for security reasons with the aim to avoid sectarian disputes.
The Sudanese minister also added that permitting the mass to be held in a close- door place was also taken to avoid cheating " simple people" on the existence of abnormal powers to hail the patients, stressing, simultaneously, the Sudanese authority's full respect to the freedom of worship.
