Arabs Meets over Association with Europe
An Arab ministerial conference on association accords between the European Union and the Arab Mediterranean countries will be held Wednesday in Damascus, Syria.
The conference will be attended by ministers from the concerned countries, namely Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Lebanon.
Participants will debate coordination of stances to obtain the best result of association with Europe. They will also study means to curb adverse impacts of competition between European products and local ones.
The conference will also seek to agree on a strategy whereby concerned countries will be able to improve or modify clauses of the Association Accords and tune them with Arab interests.
The European Union already concluded association accords with Morocco and Tunisia. A similar accord was initialed with Egypt. Negotiations are under way with Algeria, Syria and Lebanon to reach the same accord.
