On Abdul Rahman's visit to Damascus

Originally published

The United Arab Emirates UAE daily al-Khaleij on Monday quoted sources it described as well-informed as saying that member of the PLO executive committee Asaad Abdul Rahman will try during his visit to Damascus which he started on Sunday to contain comments on decisions taken by the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat after his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad, on the sideline of the Amman's Arab summit.

The sources told the paper that Arafat's taken decisions were his acceptance of the Egyptian- Jordanian initiative to revive the Palestinian- Israeli track and the political and security contacts held between the Israelis and the Palestinians in each of Athens and Tel Aviv.

For his part, Abdul Rahman told the paper in statements he made before he headed for Damascus and issued on Monday by the UAE daily that he will discuss in Damascus all main issues and preparations for Arafat's visit. He denied to know about any Syrian blame concerning Arafat.

Abdul Rahman, who at the meantime is responsible for the file of the Palestinian- Syrian relations denied news that Arafat's visit to Damascus was postponed.
