Morocco's ambassador in Lisbon denounces Polisario's war and violence logic
Morocco's ambassador in Lisbon, Salaheddine Tazi, denounced in a column published Friday in a local mass-circulation daily the war and violence dynamic developed by the Polisario.
The ambassador wrote in "Diario De Noticias" daily while Morocco denounces this belligerent logic, it renews its will to continue to cooperate fully and totally with the UN security council, the secretary general and his special envoy for the Sahara. The diplomat further argues that statements by the Polisario, an Algerian-backed guerilla movement claiming the independence of Moroccan southern provinces, foil the world body efforts to find a solution to the issue.
Meanwhile, he went on, Morocco is "resolved to shoulder its responsibilities, as it has been doing throughout centuries, to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity." The article also surveys the obstacles erected by the separatists to shrink lists of potential voters in the referendum, efforts by the UN secretary general special envoy and the UN security council decision to seek another solution.
He concluded that Morocco has renewed readiness to facilitate any move likely to bring a "political settlement" to the issue.
